چکیده

To a great extent, the success of advanced image-guided medical procedures hinges on non-rigid volume registration. For example, nonrigid registration must be applied in interventional approaches where intraoperative information is used to update high-quality preoperative data; in follow-up studies in order to assess time-evolution of development; aging, pathology or treatment; and in many other applications including intersubject variability and population-based atlas construction. In this paper we examine several computational schemes that warps one volumetric dataset onto another. We also explore the inevitable trade-off between the computational load and the incorporation of sophisticated similarity measures necessary for multimodal volumes. Estimated deformation fields are based on the variational formulation of Partial Derivative Equations (PDEs), which includes a similarity and a regularization term. We compare numerical solutions to this problem using the Euler-Lagrange equations (EL), the Finite Elements discretization (FE), and Decoupled Optimization over the possible deformations (DO). Multimodality and Nonrigid Image Registration with Application to Diffusion Tensor Imaging

Multimodality and Nonrigid Image Registration with Application to Diffusion Tensor Imaging Mohammed Khader The great challenge in image registration is to devise computationally efficient algorithms for aligning images so that their details overlap accurately. The first problem addressed in this thesis is multimodality medical image registration, which we formulate as an optimization problem in...

Feature-based nonrigid image registration using a Hausdorff distance matching measure

Qian Ma Chinese Academy of Sciences Institute of Optics and Electronics 5th Laboratory Chengdu 610209, China Abstract. A feature-based, nonrigid image registration method using a Hausdorff distance-based matching measure is presented. The proposed method is robust to outliers and missing features, as no correspondence is established between the features. Utilizing a B-splinebased, nonrigid defo...

Slice-to-Volume Nonrigid Registration of Histological Sections to MR Images of the Human Brain

Registration of histological images to three-dimensional imaging modalities is an important step in quantitative analysis of brain structure, in architectonic mapping of the brain, and in investigation of the pathology of a brain disease. Reconstruction of histology volume from serial sections is a well-established procedure, but it does not address registration of individual slices from sparse...

Gradient Projection Learning for Parametric Nonrigid Registration

A potentially large anatomical variability among subjects in a population makes nonrigid image registration techniques prone to inaccuracies and to high computational costs in their optimisation. In this paper, we propose a new learning-based approach to accelerate the convergence rate of any chosen parametric energy-based image registration method. From a set of training images and their corre...

Nonrigid registration of brain MRI using NURBS

The focus of medical image registration has shifted to nonrigid registration. It is also a core component in computational neuroanatomy. In this paper, we propose an efficient registration framework which has feature of multiresolution and multigrid. In contrast to the existing registration algorithms. Free-Form Deformations based NURBS (Nonuniform Rational B Spline) are used to acquire nonrigi...
